I have got the biggest problem with a kid that is non stop trying to cheat off of me.  I am a mechanical engineering major, and I knew him a little bit from high school and when I saw him in my class last semester, I figured great, I know someone in here already and sat next to him, and things were cool for a few weeks.  Then, he started not showing up to class and not doing his homework, and since we turned it in on a disk and was pretty general, he was asking me to burn an extra copy of my hw and give it to him.  I did it the first time to help him out, I figured he was in a rough time and no problem, but then he started doing it all the time, and I kind of cut him off, and started avoiding him.  I take calc I for engineers this semester, and who is in there but him, goddamn it.  I come late purposely so I can see where he is sitting and go to the other side of the room, and HE WILL MOVE OVER NEXT TO ME!!! He is always trying to get my homework and to "study" with him, which means cheat off of me further in cheater language, and I am about to lose it.  The other day, we had a take home quiz and I came to class the next day with it finished, and he asked to see it and I said no, and he moves on to the next person and eventually, someone gives it to him to copy.  It just fuckin pisses me off that I am up busting my ass after I take 16 credit hours of school, work 30 hours a week, and still manage to pour my heart and soul into my education and this freakin mook is getting through college (he is a civil engineer) by cheating and stealing!!!! DAMMIT!!! ok sorry for the rant, but have any of you guys had this problem, and if so what did you do?

Yeah, I hate to bring it up to my calc professor, but that class is REALLY hard, well not really hard, but it just involves a ton of work and focus, and it just sucks to see someone get a free ride through it when I am trying so hard, but I guess it will come back to bite him in the ass, all engineering majors have to take calc I, II, and III, so lets hope he gets his ass reamed in calc II or III when no one will let him copy

Well instead of giving him notes, you might be able to give him work that he should do later on so he does some effort. Other than that, it will get him in the end, and you should tell the teacher to take a thorough check of one of his student (the one you are talking about). Clearly this is narking in a sensible way.

if you want a way that wont offend him, you could make up fake answers or formulas or fake notes that will lead him off and when he goes to do a test or hand in an assignment it will be a big fat zero. then he will think that ur dumb and will find someone else to go cheat off of:)

I had a similar situation about three years ago and I told him aseveral times that I would not give him the work that I spent hours on.  Finally he came to me in a class and asked again and I said loud where everyone could hear, "Damn't I have told you several times that I will not give you or anyone else my work."  He was stunned, turned red in the face and walked out.  He approached me later outside the building and was going to kick my ass but he changed his mind when I started taking off my coat and rolling up my sleeves.

You did the right thing.
