It seems that Apple computers resell for much higher, even years later, but maybe that's just me...

[color=#9966FF]Ha. You can get a 5 month old PC for like 300 bucks. They come out with so much new crap, way the fuck to often instead of just doing it right the first time like Mac.

Except those cheesy iMacs that came without disk drives. THAT was a major flaw right there. But they mostly do a swell job, and all that. Customizable < Functionality.

I dunno. At the time, I thought Apple was silly -- of course we need disk drives!! But now I think they were just a year or three ahead of schedule on realizing that nobody uses them anymore. USB flash drives are better in every way I can think of, anyway.

I made a point of getting a floppy drive on my previous computer. Had the thing for almost five years, I think. Used the drive maybe twice, ever.

I agree with Khadgar and 4est. I'd say Mac has a better resale value. Everytime I turn around something new is out for Windows, and some people sale PC's ridiculousy high, it's best to buy one new.

*cry* I still use floppy disks!!!!

But then again... I'd only use them on my 6 year old desktop computer. I want to get the files off it, but it has no cd burner, capability for a usb jumpdrive to work, and no connectivity to the internet. I'm just stuck, as my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive, and nobody has a computer with a floppy drive anymore!!! *frustrated*

Well thanks. I doubt I'll be there any time soon, though, and if I were there, I'd probably NOT have a floppy disk with the files I want off of my old computer on person.

Couldn't you take your tower to somewhere, plus in to a LAN, and email, or IM them into your email and extract them on your laptop?

Of course its going to be the Mac, there are fewer of them. That said, anything that is proprietary should never be allowed to gain a decent re-sale value.

Why you want to sell any of them is where I am lost. I have vast numbers of old PC's kicking about in one state or another. They are now proxy servers, firewalls, web servers, NAS servers...even test beds (I had windows server 2003 enterprise running quite well on a 466Mhz PII a few weeks ago).

I have internet acess in my room, but I just can't get it to configure properly, as they only authorize 4 computers per room for the net, and that would make 5. I COULD do it, but I'd have to re-register my laptop... and it's just a hassle.

What do you mean no one had a floppy drive...i make sure i put one in. Decent support for USB booting has only been around for about 12 months and many people don't have machines that new. I use my floppy drive a fair old bit, in fact right now i can see a stack of about 25 disks.

Nobody has a floppy drive, meaning that nobody that I'd asked has one. None of my roommates and hallmates do...

... If only I had a portable one sitting around. I tried direct usb to usb linking, Ethernet to Ethernet, and even a phone cord? (last ditch). A floppy drive would make things so much easier. I'm glad it's nothing of consequence.

Uhh... I don't think anything since the first apple has came without any disk drives.

Most of them don't have floppy drives any more, well because floppies are not needed.
