Obtaining positions of power and influence doesn't mean assimilation had taken place.

From everything that I've seen about the Nazi the argument was one of the fact that so many refused to assimlate.  This can be seen even today in some cases, though I'm not sure what the % of Jews who have assimilated vs those who haven't.  There are some who are apart of the Jewish faith who consider theirselves "Jews" and not really apart of the nation that they reside in.

Does the refusal to assimilate mean that they can't obtain a position of power in that same nation that they claim to not be a member of?  Of course not, as money can almost always buy power.

This refusal to assimilate, while attempting to assert positions of power/influence within the government has hisorically been a point of contension in Europe.  Meanwhile in the arab lands, the Jews did tend to assimilate into the arab nation and were gladly accepted as advisors to the ruling class and other positions of power during arab history.  This was especially true when the Moorish people came into the Iberian region.

The majority of those of the Jewish faith that I've met have assimilated and if they didn't say it, then you most likely wouldn't have known that they were followers of Judiasm.  While many times they were also athiestic or agnostic and only used the term Jewish to define a few odd behaivors or to try and define their race, there were some who still practiced.  One of my friends used to joke about being a 'Jewrean' as his mother was 'Jewish' (though had no connection to the Jewish faith) and his father a Korean.

I remember in school we had one who went to temple and all that, but was assimilated a little too well into the MTV generation for my likeing.  How someone could try to incite an orgy during one of our band trips and then turn around and ask his father to give Jewish prayers the next week was beyond me.  Then again a few of the 'Christians' in band were just as disgusting.
