Hardcore linux users?  Is OSX (or some form of it) not in some way based on Unix?

Yes, it is Unix based. However, what I meant by "hard core linux user" is the people who use Linux and say, "Ohh Mac OS X sucks" or "Mac OS X is a pussy unix" shit like that. Anyone that tries to put OS X down because they think that Linux is superior than Mac OS X. I admit, that is my point of view, people might actually think Linux is better - but in this case, I'm aiming that comment towards the 12-14 year olds who don't know shit.

Linux can be supior to OSX simply because it it open source. You can customize it exacly to your needs which increases performance. I personally don't like the OSX interface. **Shrugs**

On a side note there are OSX software emulator.

Indeed, each OS has its advantages over the others....

The OS/X emulators are terribly slow ( like 2% normal speed) and pretty useless.
You don't have to run the aqua interface, you can boot straight into BSD, and run X windows if you want.. It's still osx

Yeah, the GUI is called Aqua. It's the equivilant to Gnome or KDE. Just a desktop runtime enviornment.

However, OS X and its kernal is a lot more user friendly. It's just as customizable as any other distro. Granted, it isn't open source, however I think it's worth the money for such an amazing OS.

heh....i also have an hp laptop...lol..but mac is more for looks than for performance

Oh prepare to be flamed by Mac lovers!

I know most OSs inside and out on their performance and best features. Macs do nto have a good architecture. I like the advance into UNIX based systems [OS X] but they are more graphics oriented. That is it. Period. If you want intense processing power build a clutser which is only available on the x86 platform. [MAC is x11 if you were wondering]. That is a powerful supercomputer. Or get dual processors or an OS that works: Linux. The deal with Apple is they limit the hardware to their selection. IBM develops the CPUs which are powerful but limited. AMD has a better horizon on this and that is also why Intel should be catchign up. The limit on Mac and some OS X features are what divert some people, like me, away. I have suggested they port it to x86 platform because then I would consider installing it on my PC. ONly problem is then they need to develop driver wizards for the various arrays of hardware EVERYWHERE... type your post here

First of all! I like macs, beacuse there faster and the FACT that you hardly have to worry about getting a virus or a hidden trojan horse! Sure macs may not have very good compatibiltiy, but thats why they have the virtual pc software, so that you can use lousy WINDOWS programs on your mac! (iT'S not like we want Windows programs anyway!)

No one wants windowze apps. They have leaks upon leaks of memory in their code. But PCs can also be linux, do not forget that. Virtual PC is not an ideal choice either because since mac is an x11 architecture and PC is x86, most processor power is devoted to converting the program to Mac's native architecture in order to process it. Where as you can run something like WINE in Linux [also available in MAC, but you need to compile it] which will run the native architecture support so thath it is marginally slower but optimized speed compared to windows. Ugg windows. Why did Billy G have to be a salesman?

First off - Apple has started almost, if not all, everything in the computer world.

First off, you're just wrong.  That's like saying Starbucks invented coffee.. really now.  You aren't serious in that..

It didn't go from vacuum tube to mac overnight..

1) No one likes Macs enough to want to write a virus for it.
2) Because no one likes/uses 3ds max, a Windows-only program.  Not to mention all those other high-end programs that are only for Windows, and sometimes Unix as well.

I would switch to mac if they had all the same games without using another program to run them and if most companies with servers ran a mac type server capible of running mac through the server.

Why don't you get a macmini? They're £340. That's cheap for a mac.
And they're good to.
