do periods REALLY cause mood swings in any way aside from the fact that they make the girl physically uncomfortable, which causes irritation? Like, is it a chemical change in the body, or is it just getting cranky from the pain?

there is a hormone change that makes you more irritable, tired, and sometimes sad

but at least you only have one....i've had to go through it twice every month for the past 3 months...it SUCKS

its not that hormones are overflowing more then usual, its the hormone receptors on cells that are more sensitive or more in quantity during this time that pick up the hormones more thus making you all moody and crappy

Hormonal change that causes your endorphins to be released, which in turn causes your emotions to go haywire, which in turn causes somewhat extreme mood swings in some cases.

Chemical thing. It's thought to be hormones that cause it. It can cause irritability, mood swings, excessive sadness/crying, cramps, depression, anxiety, feelings of hopelessness/worthlessness, migraines, breast tenderness, agression, muscle aches and bloating.
