I love my boyfriend, I really do. We've known each other for nearly two years now and have been dating for the past six months. He's the best friend I've ever had.

But...

...I think he needs a quick slap to the back of the head.

Who the fuck drops out of college to try and become a DJ without knowing it'll work? He's seriously considering not coming back to school to take a chance on something that, thanks to his mother, is basically doomed to fail.

The best part is that he owes her about $10,000 and two separate schools approximately $50,000. Just wonderful. He's talking about wanting to start a life with me and he's already about $60,000 in debt and has no way to pay it off.

No matter what I say, no matter how rational I try to be, this guy is determined that he's going to dig himself in a hole chasing a dream his Mom is using to trap him at home with.

If this fails, he said he'll go back to school but he'll owe even more money by then! He'll also be a year behind everyone else. That's assuming his Mom will even let him come back.

God, I loved this post yesterday. It still baffles me how some one can be so stupid and not realise what they're doing to their future.

I wouldn't just hit him over the head, I would cattle prod him.

Yeah, I keep complaining, I know, but it keeps getting worse and it's only further infuriating me. What kind of mother encourages her kid to drop out of college so he can live at home forever? This woman is nuts!

EDIT: For clarification: What set me off (again) is her telling him to start trying to book gigs for December. DECEMBER?!?! That's eight months away! I know what she's doing, she's trying to trap him. What if he only gets one or two gigs? That's not enough but it's enough to keep him at home.

He panicked a little, realized I was right, but then went back on what he said and told me that he still wants to try it.

Whoops, didn't realize I complained about the December thing already. See? It makes me so mad I can't think straight.

If he wont listen to you and change for you, as his best friend more than anything, is he really worth it?

I don't think he should change, I think he should grow up. He can try DJing AFTER school, AFTER he's got a degree just in case. I have no problem with him trying this out, I just think this is entirely the wrong time and the wrong way. His Mom is only using it to trap him, this isn't going to work.

I can't believe she dislikes me so much that she'd go this far to keep him away.
