If I got tested for ADD in first grade, I can guarantee you I would have been diagnosed with it. I never payed attention in class. I'm completely different now.
I think ADD gets misdiagnosed ALOT, and the first thing parents do is throw medication at their kids. It's really quite sad.

I agree. My brother is a prime example. My foster dad smacks him around a lot, but it doesn't him any good. He's just an asshole who can't get it through his thick skull that it's not okay to be a dick.

I agree some kids just might be hyperactive, but it is a real condition, and can be genetically tested to confirm. To say otherwise is stupid and inconsiderate.

I gotta disgaree...I think THE MAJORITY people use ADD/ADHD to hide behind lots these days, but I really think I have a learning disorder, if not ADD or dyslexia, then dyscalculia. They never even diagnosed me with ADHD until 8th grade, they refused to test me, said I was jus tlazy.
Just because it's misdiagnosed a lot in (America) doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Too true.
Too many parents like the idea of ADD/ADHD being a proper disorder, and they stick a label on their child because it seems to give reason to their kids' behaviour. I'm not saying genuine ADD/ADHD doesn't exist, it does, it can be proven, but it's nowhere near as common as statistics would have people believe.
