A new Chapter will be posted each week. This story is something I wrote ages ago, that I recently felt the urge to re-write, now that my writing style has somewhat matured.

A Prelude...

"Today, my brothers, we shall return to the land of dreams! Our home, Metru-nui!"

The matoran had built ships and transports to transport them to their old home they had long ago forgotten. The Turaga led them to the great door and whilst they prepared for the journey, Turaga Vakama took aside two Matoran to speak with them in private. The two Matoran were Codtaro and Kanta. Turaga Vakama had a look of sorrow on his face.

"You two. I promised that you'd never be apart. I meant to keep that promise, but the flow of fate shall prevent it."
"What do you mean?" Codtaro asked, the brilliant yellow eyes flashing through his pure black Akaku. It was his mask that had made him an outcast, since no Ko-koroan had a black mask. He had been banished by almost all of the tribes, and had only a few friends among the hundreds of Matoran. Kanta was one of them, the best of them.

"You must stay here on Mata-nui, Codtaro. There are reasons for this I can not go into. I may send Kanta back to the island too, in coming years, but you must be strong. You will go from being an outcast to being a hero."
"Never, Turaga Vakama. I will always be known as the Outcast, but I will stay, if it is my Duty."
"More than that, it is your Destiny."

Codtaro nodded, and embraced Kanta a final time before he returned to the surface Turaga Vakama smiled in his heart. He knew what the future held for these two, and felt that Codtaro himself might know as well. Content with how the conversation had gone, with no words from Kanta, who now seemed extremely somber, The two returned to the work ahead of them. Turaga Vakama felt a sudden pain in his heart, and turned back to look a the great gate, where Makuta had met his death. Perhaps his soul still lingered, creating this evil atmosphere. Knowing that Mata-nui had not seen it's worst attack yet, Vakama said a silent prayer to Mata-nui for the safety of the island.

"In the name of legend, protect them, and the mask..."
