No.  Moderation should not hinge on a popularity contest.

We'll have to demote you.

But if it did you can garantee that Jesse would still be green. (with envy)

Members of the mod team apparently liked me, hence why I'm blue, while you, on the other hand...

Who usually picks the mods?

David, nobody else does.

And to the OP, no way. It's not a popularity contest.

As far as I can remember, Jesse was well liked before becoming a mod.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, provided some conditions were met. For one thing, the pool would be from the people who have applied to be a moderator, their entire application would have to be visible, along with the notes on their profile. (this information is needed in making a decision).

Also, some system would have to be in place to ensure that people don't do stupid stuff, like making numerous accounts to vote someone in and suchlike,  there are few satisfactory ways of doing this, the most effective would probably be to limit it to people over a certain post count or days active.

Other than that, I can see it being kind of interesting. Mods would get to vote, and you would get to see our notes on the person that would say what out opinions are.

Also, the potential for drama and great lulz is huge too, and that is awesome.

Agreed wholeheartedly.  I don't think it would necessarily be a bad thing to have potential moderators who have submitted an application be chosen by the regular members on Livewire through a special kind of voting system (as in, a certain number of posts and days active to prevent people using multiple accounts to vote for one person), so long as the moderator choice can be approved by David with the rest of the mod team having the ability to demote the new moderator if the moderator is not performing up to standards.

Unless you are envisioning beautiful drama like people seeing mod notes about them saying that we think they would make a shit moderator and going "OMG, that bastard!, I'm leaving forever" yadda, yadda, yadda and suchlike, then you are probably not wholeheartedly agreeing with me.

Fuck no.
We can't see how they do as a support leader, how they respond to formal and informal warnings. We just can't see how they would do. That is why the moderation team helps choose who is promoted.

That and the fact that we have to be able to work well with whoever is up for mod. If the majority of the team doesn't agree with a member on that, then most likely they will not become a mod. We need people to be able to work decently with each other and not have to worry about too much fighting and bickering between us. David tries to make the team like that but at the same time, he tries to pick people who also has different ideas and views.
