Do you know if any of your family members keep genealogy records? Some people do. That's how I know about most of my family. We have an enormous book. Complete with generation after generation of pictures, our family tree, who was Cherokee, who was Irish, who sold horses to Jesse James and had he and his brother over for dinner, who stabbed people to death and skipped town, etc. Fun book. Ask all of your relatives. Someone is liable to know something.
