Well it's obviously important to her, so it's best to let her do it.

Can't you two do something after the class? Surely if they're kids you won't be busy that late into the night with them, leaving ample opportunity to do something together.

Carie's right of course.  We don't "do" anniversaries...or birthdays or really any holidays.  I'm mostly just disappointed, not that it won't be a spectacular day, but because it will be a sub-average day.
