hes in love with her because she is so different from any other girl, no she may not be the most beautiful but its her mind that attracts people to her. she doesnt think like everyone else thats also why he cant read her mind

For someone who "has the series memorized," you are pretty fucking clueless.

It's her "sekrit speshul power" that she shields herself from vampire attacks. It has nothing to do with the way she thinks; it's her X-Men power that only gets heightened after she's vamped.

Edward Cullen is attracted to Bella Swan because she smells good. The two are devoid of any real chemistry and their relationship mainly consists of conversations about "You're prettier." "No, you're prettier."

This is a very old reply, but have you read the partial draft of Midnight sun? I agree with you that through twilight - breaking dawn it would be easy to assume it's Bella's "special power" that attracts Edward but if you read Midnight Sun you realize it's basically all Alice's fault. She keeps showing Edward visions of him and Bella together to make him fall for her. It works. He's really in love with her in chapter one of Bella's version.

I really can't believe I'm analyzing this, BUT...

When you read Bella's version and Edward's version, it becomes pretty clear that Edward and Bella have totally different ideas of who Bella actually is. Whereas Edward can't hear her whingy inner monologue and realize that she's just telling people things to get them to leave her alone or setting people up because ugh, Bella Swan wouldn't go on a date with a nerd, he thinks she's all altruistic and noble and selfless, when really, she's kind of a bratty selfish bitch. I'm willing to bet good money that he wouldn't have been so crazy for her if he could've heard her thoughts from the get-go...and not just because the mystery would've been gone, either.

As to the Alice thing, it's actually something really strange about the series...SMeyer always talks about how "free will" is such a huge theme, but then, no one ever chooses who they want to fall in love with. No werewolves choose, no vampires choose, no humans choose, it's all fate and biology. A fair argument could be made for "we don't really have a choice" being a theme in these books, except that SMeyer says it's "free will," which makes things very confusing.

I'd just like to say that I bought the second book about two full months ago and am still only a bit more than halfway through. I don't see how people can want to read these books as fast as possible, because I don't find them worth the frenzy of finishing. I'm quite bored and this is why I still haven't finished; I keep putting it down out of lost interest.

OH.  And in a recent issue of our school newspaper, one of our pseudo-intellectual article writers denounced the traditional English class picks for studied literature.  Instead, she wrote, we should spend our time on Twilight, which is perfect reading for English class because it is a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet.  I am...baffled.

Yeah, I don't quite understand it either. I mean, like Twilight all you want, but...honestly, it's nothing groundbreaking or genre-defining, and 500 years from now, it'll probably have been forgotten, along with Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. Romeo & Juliet, however, will continue to be studied for many centuries to come.

Oh my god.

Okay, I give up. You scary Twilight fans win. When you go around the bend and start making plushies of Bella's uterus, that's when I throw in the towel and run for my life. Just, please, don't hurt the children.

I read the second and third today. The Mrs will be happy.

Is it just me or are Bella and Edward the most boring people in a book ever? The minor characters are so much more interesting.

I could enjoy a series about Jasper much more.

I definitely agree. SMeyer actually did an excellent job with her secondary characters...shit, even Jacob's sections are more entertaining and interesting than anything about Bella and Edward themselves.

I do wish she would just have sat on this series a while, revised, revisited, and come back, because it had such great potential.

Your right it really has a rushed feel about it. The world and lore she has created are interesting.

I find the problem with Bella and Edward is they never reveal anything new. Neither are curious people and that makes them terrible main characters. I hate to compare to Harry Potter but he was as curious as the reader always taking you into more interesting ideas and showing you more of the world that JK had created.
