I really can't believe I'm analyzing this, BUT... When you read Bella's version and Edward's version, it becomes pretty clear that Edward and Bella have totally different ideas of who Bella actually is. Whereas Edward can't hear her whingy inner monologue and realize that she's just telling people things to get them to leave her alone or setting people up because ugh, Bella Swan wouldn't go on a date with a nerd, he thinks she's all altruistic and noble and selfless, when really, she's kind of a bratty selfish bitch. I'm willing to bet good money that he wouldn't have been so crazy for her if he could've heard her thoughts from the get-go...and not just because the mystery would've been gone, either. As to the Alice thing, it's actually something really strange about the series...SMeyer always talks about how "free will" is such a huge theme, but then, no one ever chooses who they want to fall in love with. No werewolves choose, no vampires choose, no humans choose, it's all fate and biology. A fair argument could be made for "we don't really have a choice" being a theme in these books, except that SMeyer says it's "free will," which makes things very confusing.

I'd just like to say that I bought the second book about two full months ago and am still only a bit more than halfway through. I don't see how people can want to read these books as fast as possible, because I don't find them worth the frenzy of finishing. I'm quite bored and this is why I still haven't finished; I keep putting it down out of lost interest. OH. And in a recent issue of our school newspaper, one of our pseudo-intellectual article writers denounced the traditional English class picks for studied literature. Instead, she wrote, we should spend our time on Twilight, which is perfect reading for English class because it is a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet. I am...baffled.
Yeah, I don't quite understand it either. I mean, like Twilight all you want, but...honestly, it's nothing groundbreaking or genre-defining, and 500 years from now, it'll probably have been forgotten, along with Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. Romeo & Juliet, however, will continue to be studied for many centuries to come.

I liked the saga very much. The book was alot better than the movie...I was slightly disappointed.
