Your right it really has a rushed feel about it. The world and lore she has created are interesting.

I find the problem with Bella and Edward is they never reveal anything new. Neither are curious people and that makes them terrible main characters. I hate to compare to Harry Potter but he was as curious as the reader always taking you into more interesting ideas and showing you more of the world that JK had created.

*nods* The two of them seem to take everything at face value and, because of that and because the story is told from Bella's perspective, we don't get a deeper picture of the world SMeyer's trying to create. It also makes for very flat main characters...there's not a whole lot to Bella, Edward and even Jacob that isn't somehow related to that love triangle.

I love the series, but sure, it's not the most eloquently written piece of literature. It is what it is, an indulgence. A silly/lusty series fore pure entertainment. A guilty pleasure. I'll admit it.

Due to a decreased number of topics about Twilight, I'm going to unstick this for the moment. Feel free to carry on discussion, though, and if the topics come back, I'll restick it again.

People are expecting too much.  Books are written to be sold.  And that's exactly what she did.

I'm so tired of hearing, "That's not what vampires dooo!!! "  It's just a freaking books.

Which I love. I wonder if Bella is into mudkips. We could probably chill out together and make Edward an angry little vampire.

"Oh the urrrrge to bite Jamesish"

Bite it, come on, bite it.

"I don't want to hurt you."

Don't make me call the wolf boy.

"Can't you just have my hot sister?"

Sure.

"Are you afraid?"

No.

"What am I?"

I don't want to say it.

"Say it out loud, say it."

Vampire.

"Mmmhm, vampire."

Vampire.

"Vampire."

Vampire.

not really true.

Books are published to be sold, but writers have different reasons for writing their story. Some don't care if they are published or not

Some writers will add this or that and/or take something out to appeal more to the general audience.

I obviously didn't mean every book in existence.  Many fiction book writers will do this.

While I can agree with the idea of books being written solely to sell, the idea of them not being for critics...well... http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/24/

So, forget the fanbase/readers. It's only for the money/publishings/critics?

That's a rather conveluted viewpoint, but I'm not surprised.

Like I said. I like Twilight. Fuck what the critics say. What matters is that I enjoyed it. And I know better than to say, "But what about the vampires of so and so book?". Not every vampire literature is going to represent vampires as the same. The fact that many do disturbs me, and I applaud stephenie for making a change in the norm, so to say.

And I still stand that her writing far surpasses Anne Rice's. But she still has a bit to do to reach J.R. Ward's Vampiric novelelic writing ability.

Where, exactly, did I say it wasn't for the general public? I was just pointing out that the argument of "it's not for critics" is extremely stupid.

Calm down and unknot your panties. Go breathe somewhere. Take up meditation or Yoga.

I'm not the one with my panties in a twist, hon. You, in constantly putting down a novel which was not meant to be over effin' analyzed, is she who has her knickers in a bunch.

Um, no. I'm pointing out that the argument that it's not for critics is stupid. I haven't put it down in ages, let alone touched this thread in ages. You, on the other hand, seem to have some sort of emotional trigger that causes you to lose your shit every time someone suggests that Twilight is anything but the golden writing of the gods themselves and that SMeyer is anything less than a deity.

Do yourself a favor--get a hobby.
