I would love it if search engines  could not crawl anonymous topics, so they won't get indexed by sites such as Google, Yahoo, Ask, Msn.

Keeping people away from things you don't want them to find, by searching on the internet.

"hey [mom], you're being fucking dumb; there are hundreds of thousands of people on livewire."

wow, one quick, easy step to solving every scenario where that would be an issue.

They're anonymous, I fail to see your point?

People can recognize a situation, get to the site, find the person on Livewire, etc.

I agree that this would be good.

so you're saying the anonymous feature allows that somebody might come across livewire, be struck with the idea that somebody else might have made an account here, and then hunt down that account?

if so, that's ridiculous. non-anonymous posting only allows that much, much more.

People from your school?  Your friends?  I've had two people find my Livewire account.  If I posted this topic anonymous, the very same day my entire school was grieving over him as an anonymous post... someone types "Jake" "suicide" "death" into Google.  Finds Livewire, and sees that post they now know that someone from the school is on the site and in that situation, i'd probably find out who it is.  (browsing image baskets and the such)

I didn't post that topic anonymous, but someone found it and asked me about it a few years ago.

I'm not saying that shit like that happens a ton, but it just gives people more of a piece of mind to know that it is truly an anonymous posting.

alright well i see what you mean now, but i think by putting somebody's name there you're setting yourself up for it. and then you don't really deserve to have the site sacrifice something--whatever it gets out of anonymous topics being on google--for that protection. by not including any personal (in this context) information, which seems to me to be extremely easy and without negative consequences in any topic, there's almost no way it would be found.

i think the only idea of anonymous is to protect your posts from anybody you know personally who already knows your membername. i think it really is ridiculous to draw a line concerning how much is whose and whose else responsibility to keep your membername secret. this is the internet; it's not hard at all to keep your account separated from the real world if you try.

...but, i'm probably wrong about the feature's intended purpose and you two probably do have a point. it's just that i think that the mindset for which you argue takes things for granted way too much.
