I finally got my blog sorted and fixed. My last webhost was really a pile of shit so I've moved everything over today. I'm now with dreamhost (who are amazing! 500GB storage, 5TB bandwidth for <$10/month).

So my personal blog is live at: http://hibalazs.net/

I've also moved everything from http://theminiblog.co.uk/ over to http://mini.hibalazs.net/ for the time being until I can get the domain transferred over. (Though I don't really blog there anymore I need to keep it alive).

I should have done it sooner, I've just been really lazy, but now I can get back to blogging about my life.

That's what I was getting at. How's it pronounced, homeslice?

Oh, I see. I say it as /bal-ash/. The 'bal' doesn't sound like ball though. It's pronounced different in Hungarian, but no-one could ever learn to say it like that because of the accent, so I've just adopted it like this.

Wow, talk about overselling. If they weren't so established, I wouldn't even consider going with dreamhost.

I did say. They are overselling. No company in their right mind would offer 500gb of space and 5TB of space and expect to not find themselves bankrupt if the majority of users get anywhere near using even 10% of that on their accounts.

Oh right, I thought you meant it in a different way.

Anyhow, it's 500GB of space, not 5TB. The 5TB is bandwidth (data transferred).

It's just good marketing. That's the idea that most people won't need it, but it's nice to have the option if you need it. Plus at the price they're offering it's a whole lot better than other deals for way much less space and bandwidth.

People said the same thing about Gmail when Google announced their 2GB of email storage, that they'd run out of space, etc, especially because Google's doing it all for free. But that's obviously not going to happen.

Considering its around $10 per 1mbps on server connections you would be looking at $170 per month to pay for the bandwidth alone, then ontop of that the server itself and managed costs if it is so.

Google is a massive company, they have the technology and resources to actually offer it all.

On dreamhost once you start using a high percentage of server resources they will kick you off.

Yeah, well I don't think I'll have that many visitors to occupy a high percentage of server resources. If I do, I'll get a dedicated hosting package, or move to (media temple).

I meant bandwidth when I typed space. Thought that would've been implicit from the repetition though :/
