Hey! I was wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions. I have a HP Pavillion zv5240 Notebook.

The problem is with the battery, the moment I unplug the A/C cord, it runs on battery for 45 to 1 minute and 30 seconds and then it powers off.

The windows battery meter says 100% and it drops down to 94% and then it powers off,

After rebooting, it restarts with 1% charging but when it reaches to 8% it says its fully charged at 100%

I used a problem called mobilemeter to check the battery health and this is what it says,
The wear level is 65%
and it can hold 30917 mWh

So i'm thinking, wait, this doesn't make sense, the battery is only worn out 1/5 way, and if brand new, it should last me 2 hours, and its only used up half, so shouldnt I get 1 hour of battery life still? I'm suspecting someone wrong with the battery manangement inside the laptop.
Any ideas? If im guessing, it will do the same thing with a new set of battery.

there are a number of things that could be wrong with your battery. there could be a bad contact,  the battery could be malfunctioning, or the battery has simply run out of uses. My dad has a laptop that does basically the same thing, it runs on 100% battery for a few seconds and then runs out. He replaced the battery with a brand new one, but the same thing happened. We found out that it was a bad contact, and that he needed to replace it. He thought it would be better to just buy a new laptop, though because his was so old.

Yea, that's what I thought, could be something wrong with the laptop even with a bad battery. Which could explain it, Well I guess i can use it as a "portable desktop" with 45 seconds to move it around and plug it back in. So im just gonna keep it pluged in. lol

If it's new, you're still under warranty. Call the support line and see if they can help you out.

Then it seems like the battery itself is the problem. Three years is actually quite a bit in battery terms, so I'm not that surprised that you're having such problems. The battery has lost its capability to hold charge well, and the only real way of solving this is to buy a new battery.

Whilst you can get cheap/off brand batteries, if you're trying to make this laptop last, then I'd suggest you buy one directly from HP or an HP branded battery. Batteries don't come cheap though, and you'll also have to make sure that it's the same model or is compatible with your laptop.

If you ring HP on the phone they can help you with getting a new battery. I'm sure you can also email them from one of the links on their support site.

okay thank you! I think i'm not even gonna bother with the battery and use it as a portable desktop. 45 seconds should be long enough for me to move the laptop around lol.

Fair enough. You can always try buying a battery off ebay or some place similar if ever it gets too annoying for you. Glad I could help.
