Not always. If I wanted to make a full, "What internet accounts do you have?" poll I would need a checkbox for an accurate poll.
Then you would put down all the possible answers
There'd be no room. One for "I have a myspace, facebook, youtube, Bebop, and fotki account" one for "I have a myspace, facebook, youtube, Bebop, but not Fotki account...." There are only ten options allowed.

Again, then I'd get less responses and would have to do the work of actually tallying them up by hand. Lots of forums have the checkbox poll, I don't see why you're against it.
I'm not necessarily against it, but I think there are more important things that can be done. It's not that big of an inconvenience if you construct your polls properly.
See my post before this one, sometimes it makes certain polls impossible to make. Like, "Which of these eight internet accounts do you have?" It couldn't be done without a checkbox poll.
