I live in Austin, Texas which is one of the hot-spots for hipster culture. The more I think about it, the stupider it seems. I guess I could be labeled as a hipster, but I really don't actively try to do the shit a lot of them do. A lot of the true hipsters I know get trashed every night, wear ALL American Apparel, listen only to music that no one has ever heard of, smoke American Spirits by the carton, and debate music everywhere they go. I go to concerts and see some kids and think, "God damn...you try so hard to look like you didn't try at all."

When people realized they could just sit around and look cool rather than being part of a movement, that's when indie culture was born.

How are you a hipster?

I listen to some indie music, go to concerts, go to parties, dress in an "alternative" fashion, etc. I don't really think I am, but I hang out with a lot of hipsters. I think it's really the mindset that makes people hipsters, rather than the way they dress, the music they listen to, etc. There have been times when I feel like indie trash, but in general I don't think I am. It's a really complex, bitchy, backstabbing, pretentious social circle to get to the top of. I don't want to be part of that.
