May have something to do with our economy? Gas prices rising, but not wages? Or maybe the fact our cars get such crap gas mileage. For example in Europe you get cars that get over 40MPG. Here, my daily driver gets 11MPG average. Nice eh? I doubt the Europeans and Australians are paying over $80 a week in gas.

If they drove as unnecessarily much as most Americans, probably. FP
Yeah I guess you have a point. But if I drove as much as I do in, say, a European market Ford Fiesta I would be saving $40 or more a week. Heck, to fill my Ford Tempo up from empty it costs me just over $30. Tempo gets pitiful gas mileage in comparison to your average European econobox. 1994 Chevrolet K-2500 Cheyenne 4x4 (my truck/daily driver), 12MPG average, costs $7.52 to drive 25 miles, and average annual cost to run in gas alone is: $4,511USD. 2008 smart ForTwo Passion Coupe (European sub-compact car), 36MPG average, costs $2.67 to drive 25 miles, and average annual cost in gas is at $1,601. Now tell me who the fuck pays more in gas. Not to mention the ForTwo gets pitiful mileage by European car standards. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, Vauxhall, all offer cars that get over 40MPG. OVER DOUBLE what my truck gets. Nice eh?

I try to limit how often I drive, but it takes at LEAST half a tank to get me home from my University, which is in the middle of the Appalachian mountains. At school, we have the HIGHEST gas prices in North Carolina because we are so far off from the rest of civilization. It's really hard to put gas in my car when I'm a poor college kid. When I was still in block, I drove out twice a week to my elementary school. This also put a strain on my money. Luckily, mom and dad said I could use their BP gas card once a month, and even having that added to their tab was a bit of a strain on them. The American Economy is sucking majorly right now. With that being said, we should be grateful gas prices have not reached 5 or 6 dollars a gallon yet. I guess we're all stuck in the past, back when gas was only a dollar something. Another point to make is that Americans now have to commute to their workplaces. MANY people in my area commute to Charlotte because thats the only place they can work. Charlotte is one of NC's biggest cities. Yes, they could move TO Charlotte, but a lot of people like the more comfortable atmosphere they are raising their children in. (Less crime, etc)

Then why are you always buying Fords and GM if their millage is so bad? Get something that's good, or don't complain. Quote: from lilnikkyfreak at 10:40 am on May 13, 2008
actually you arent paying more for gas, your paying more in gas taxes. and american gas isnt relatively still inexpensive but not the cheapest
That's irrelevant. The consumer price per volume of gas is cheapest, globally too, if I recall. But they are the most vocal about price. FP
