See thats where you show your ignorance towards cars. There is nothing good in America. Got that? Nothing. The best we have is the Toyota Prius Hybrid. Costs $22,000 new, plus gets a 43MPG average. Thats the most fuel efficient car in America. Its the reason Europeans laugh at our cars. 43MPG is a lot to us, and its only average to them. Their most fuel efficient cars exceed 70MPG. Hell even the European ForTwo is supposedly coming out with a model that will get over 90MPG. WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE.

I am using GM as the example because its what I drive. I'm sorry I can't afford anything newer, and that I have to have a truck because of my lifestyle. You say Americans pay the least in gas while complaining the most. I say this is not true, at least in my case. Because it isn't true. I complain about it, but I have the grounds to do so when I am paying thousands of dollars less in gas then most other people in Europe or otherwise. I repeat the reason I have American cars is I can't afford anything nicer/newer.

I complain about gas prices. As I have the right to do. You say we pay the least for gas while complaining the most. I say this is not true, because my car doesn't get as much as the average European car. I pay a hell of a lot more in gas then most, so I can complain about it. Simple as that.

We have near the same selection as you, and our gas costs are more than yours. We don't complain.

You drive a Honda Pilot or CR-V right? Yeah I guess your gas is a lot more expensive, but, even so it costs over $1,000USD to operate a Chevrolet Cheyenne yearly. Don't say that its my choice for having a gas guzzling old American truck, because its not. Firstly I can't afford a nice new Honda SUV. I can't even afford a truck built after 2000. Hell, if this truck hadn't been so dirt cheap I'd probably end up with a used late 70's F-100. Either way I need a 4x4 truck. There isn't a single day that my truck's bed isn't full, and I use it as a truck daily. Whether it be towing, hauling junk to the dump, hauling logs and coal, etc. Not to mention I half the year 2WD sedans like my Tempo can't even make it in our driveway..

because we are spoiled..and have always had the cheapest gas, and are too enthnocentric to look outside our own bubble and see the world and their problems.

Actually, I've realized that I can't afford to operate a vehicle. So you know what I do? Instead of complaining about gas costs, I walk and use public transit.

Lucky fucking you? Some of us do not have the luxury of being able to walk places or use public transit. There is no public transit in Nikiski Alaska. I bike a lot, but it is a 40 minute drive to the closest grocery store. I'll bike to the post office and school but thats about it, otherwise I'd spend the entire day just biking somewhere.

Not everybody lives in the city.

True, and I'll agree that some people have the right to complain. However, the sweeping majority don't. They buy their big Hummers that they drive 3 minutes to the grocery store, and whine about how pricey gas is.

Ok I completely agree with you there. The majority of people who own large vehicles and complain about gas really don't need it. They are the ones who should be walking or biking, or downsizing to smaller cars.

Stop being so ridiculous. I truly doubt a large percentage of American teenagers from LiveWire drive a hummer.

May have something to do with our economy? Gas prices rising, but not wages? Or maybe the fact our cars get such crap gas mileage. For example in Europe you get cars that get over 40MPG. Here, my daily driver gets 11MPG average. Nice eh? I doubt the Europeans and Australians are paying over $80 a week in gas.

I'd be lucky if £40 made me half a week, as a matter of fact.

We do have alternative fuel options. Including vehicles that run on E85. (85% Ethanol, 15% Gas) It ranges from $2 - $3 a gallon and gas mileage is about the same. Most vehicles can be converted to run on gasoline or e85.

Its just a rough jump for us. When I first got my car it took maybe $15 to fill it up. Now, it costs about $38 to fill my little car up. Fortunately, my car gets good gas mileage.

I guess we take for granted what we do have. Who knows...

My motorcycle currently fills up for $14 and get's me 300 miles on one tank.

It's also cheaper than a car... Time to think about the boat your driving? I say yes.

11MPG is an extreme case, you need to seriously reconsider what your driving. Also remember that in europe gas comes to about $8 per gallon last time I was there. This comes out to more $$$ per mile.

The average car/suv get's 20 - 25MPG.

It has nothing to do with the economy, the average American is making more than enough money to pay for this gas. If they can't afford it, then there are alternatives. (Drive less, but a motorcycle, walk, or take the public transit.) Ironically in turn they'd be helping the environment.
