I don't agree with the "teenage girl" thing although there are a lot of people who do it for attention, allot.

I've meet some serious self harmer's, the nicest people you will ever meet. It's shocking how something can take over someones life.

Yep, I didn't mean the teenage girl part in a bad way, it's just alot of people think thats all who does it and scratches themselves now and again. But it's far worse than that.

Yeah I totally know what you mean, a girl I know said she did it with a shard of metal, even with close examine you could hardly see the scratch and although I'm not condoning it, it's a little pathetic.

But my best friend who has only recently recovered from OCD went through a stage of self harm and he had 8 inch scars down his arm, several inches thick. Some got infected and turn black.

There is such a contrast really, It is so incredibly sad.

Yeah, it's sad. And very annoying and frustrating for serious cutters when people talk about those who self harm as "attention seekers" or "pathetic" And I think that video really does open your eyes up and makes everyone realise that it's not pathetic, or weak, or anything else. It's serious.

And I just love how none of the silly "omggz, don't cut, thats like totally stupid, your really stupid for doing that" people aren't posting here. Cause they know they don't have a valid argument.

Yeah I had noticed that too, I just hate the people who actually brand them-selves as self-harmers for no-reason. Apart from the obvious, alot of people who cut don't even see it as self harm they see it as normal.

My girlfriend previously self-harmed and she didn't even realize she was doing it, she was cutting things like "think thin" into her legs, a part of her eating disorder unfortunately.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I started self harming through hitting myself or punching things when I was about 8. And then over a year ago started scratching my arms, never really realised I did it...but it has lead to cutting. It's definitely not as bad as in the video but still bad. I just get scared sometimes that if I won't be able to stop it may get just as bad as that. =/

Yeah I can see how it would get hard to stop, I just think it's sad to see, I've seen it drag down the nicest people I know, I really hope you are okay and you manage to overcome it in time. Stay strong!

oh, that's awfully graphic.

i do understand cutting, doing it myself, obviously, and from chatting to others and whatnot. however, for me personally, it's never been this big huge massive thing that's bad and negative in any way. it's just this thing that i do a fair amount, but it's not something that's triggered by anything that upsets me. at least, not in a conscious kind of way. it's just something that i do, have done for as long as i can remember, and can't imagine not doing at this point in my life.

so i guess i've yet to understand how huge a role it can play in a person's life. or, perhaps i do... or would moreso if someone told me i couldn't do it anymore. hmm.
