Since I am going to college for chemical science, and shit. I already know a great deal about drugs, what they're classified as, and the effect.

I also know a lot of them FIRST HAND. Marijuana is not addictive, it's a depressant, and in reallity is safer than alcohol. One of very few reasons it isn't legalize is because it is easily grown, and since the government is jewish won't be able to tax it.

Theres more reasons, but the effects of marijuana are a hell of a lot safer than being drunk.

Learn to do research, and before you talk shit about something know how it is first hand.

The Federal Government has no authority (check the Constitution) to prohibit the intake of any chemical of any individual.  It is an unjust law and any who are elected, appointed, or swear an oath to the Constitution who in anyway enforce this should be hung in a public square until dead their bodies displayed for no less than one month as a reminder of the penalty for betraying the public trust.

Evidence suggests that VERY few people who don't smoke marijuana now would start if it were legalized. People are doing it anyway, and in a civilised society you need a reason to make something illegal, not a reason to make it legal. Also, legalizing it would allow the government to levy a tax on it, and to cut a small portion of spending on prisons. Therefore they'd hve a nice little sum to invest in education or healthcare.

uh no he isn't

He's not against it, but he's not really for it, let's just say there wouldn't be an executive veto on the subject.

I'm very much for it. Anyone who listens to Bill Hicks knows all the reasons why it should be legal.

Simple. The Government and corporations would loose money. Its one of the reasons it was outlawed in the first place. Cannabis is too useful. Hemp has thousands of uses like clothing, food, rope, soap, and thousands more. Then we have the buds. If you didn't already know, THC is what gets you high. Its a known anti-carcinogen, which is why marijuana has never been linked to cancer. Another popular myth is that it kills brain cells. This was started in the Reefer Madness era. It was the rhesus monkey study of Dr. Robert Heath. The study was highly flawed as he had a small sample size of 4 monkeys, no control, and the misidentification of normal monkey brain structure as "damaged". Recent studies on humans show no signs of brain damage.
Marijuana does have known medical benefits, but due to its ease of growth and effectiveness, pharmaceutical companies would loose millions

H.R. 5843 would eliminate most Federal penalties for possession of marijuana for personal use.

"H.R. 5843 is described as an "Act to Remove Federal Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults". The bill has been introduced by US Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) and co-sponsored by US Presidential candidate Ron Paul (R-TX). If passed, this legislation would legalize the possession, use and non-for-profit of up to 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of Marijuana. Under this legislation, adults who consume Marijuana would no longer face arrest, prison or civil fines."

C'mon noobs, it is already coming.

It should be legal, it's no more dangerous than alcohol, infact, it's safer. So long as you couldn't drive under the influence, I seriously don't see the problem. I doubt it will happen though - they're trying to upgrade it to a class B drug in England again.

I am just curious about this what it take to convince the next president of the USA and congress to pass a law legalizing marijuana, I mean in all reality it's just a hyped up cigarette and in my opinion it helps  you sleep better at night time so whats the big deal

Not a good idea.  It will be a catastrophe and the country will go out of control with a bunch of drug addict running around and crime will go up in the sky, and a little moral values we have left would be finished.  We must not approve such bill and shall be vetoed with whatever necessary means.

You realize some of the the greatest art, music, and philosophical ideas have come from people taking pot, LSD, shrooms, and other drugs, right? C'mon, "we all live in a yellow submarine," do you have any idea how fucking high they were when they wrote that!
And marijuana doesn't make you immoral, lazy, or a criminal. If anything crime would reduce.
