during dinner my mother and i was talking about my trig work. it started with the normal you need to become better in math to get into a good school yada yada. but then she started talking about if i decide to take the engineering scholarship. i told her if i did do engineering i would not go into robotics. she got all upset because im the captain of a robotics team and thought i was all supportive of the new technology. i just do not support the over use of robots. i deeply believe that they make us lazy and dependent. i for one would no like to have my job taken from me by a computer that i programed! she believe that is crazy. she believe we will evolve beyond the need of mundane jobs. perhaps but having computers run us still will never appeal to me. she think im crazy and is pissed off now. what do ya'll think

Engineering is not about only robotics...
I'm getting my degree in Engineering for Trans-atmospheric vehicles, and interstellar/planetary vehicles.

Engineering is a HUGE field, I was captain of my district's robotics team also, just tell her you'll likely be working with robotics whatever you do, since it is becoming such a developing technology.

im aware, i actually prefer chemical engineering really.

she just likes the idea of me making them. i dont like the idea that it IS a growing field outside of the necessary

Well my degree is in robotics, so naturally my opinion on robots is pretty much opposite to yours. I want to specialise on the symbiosis of man and machine, so I personally believe that machines will enhance man, not replace him. On the other hand, I do think your mum's being a bit of a bitch, trying to force you into it. Just rebel, it's what you're supposed to do.
