Somebody called you a name. Turn the other cheek? Somebody hit you. Turn the other cheek? Somebody just trying to start stuff with you. Turn the other cheek? Yes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. told us that turning the cheek is the noble thing to do but its so freakin hard. I can see if somebody did i soft slap to the face but it could be a slap so hard that you fall on the floor and I can't slap you back because I'm turning the cheek. Martin Luther King Jr. you're right to not reliate with violence. But sometimes it gives your opponent another opportunity to slap the other cheek.

I'm sick of following my dreams.
I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later.

If someone spits in your face, turn the other cheek and let them spit on you again.

Turning the other cheek is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do, hence why it is so noble. It takes a lot of strength, maturity, and determination to not retaliate in some manner, and if you can successfully do it, it does far more good in the end than any other option (especially for you, the one who forgives).

I think one of the greatest miracles of this being put into practice in today's world has been how South Africa handled the aftermath of apartheid in the 90s. I'd imagine there were a lot of blacks who were completely pissed off and wanted all whites either dead or out of South Africa, but instead the nation did all these amnesty hearings, where the person on trial (could be either white or black) would have to face the family of whoever's death he is responsible for, apologize (and it would have to be a sincere one), and show that it was somehow politically motivated.

Forgiving somebody who killed somebody you love is probably turning the cheek at its strongest and most admirable. Certainly many weren't able to forgive, but for the few who did, they were able to move on and live out the rest of their lives without that burden of hate constantly on their shoulders.
