i skipped a music fundamentals class and went straight into music theory. my first semester i took a music history course, and then second semester i dove right into four part harmony. it all depends on what you know.

see the dept. head and ask about placing into a higher level class. it was totally worth it for me.

Depends on how much you know about music.

If you pick up concepts quickly, I think you would be better off in the normal theory class. A lot of people I know who take intro to theory classes end up bored and unfulfilled, and wish they learned more than they did.

i was in an intro to music class for one class. i felt like i was drowning, it was so incredibly dull. it's good if you don't know anything about music, but if you have a fair handle on things there's no reason to restrict yourself.
