whether that is true or not the fact is knowing him he doesn't know who that is and neither did I until a few minutes ago

Let's hope this isn't the case. But imaginary friends at his age could mean abuse in his early childhood. Whether physical, emotional, or sexual. The creation of the imaginary friend is the childs way of filling a void or coping with the traumatic experience.
This is usually called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and can usually be treated with Zoloft or Prozac.
However counseling is a good option also.
