Ultimately, it is one's own decision whether or not they should drink. This reminds me of my boyfriend, who disagrees with my pot smoking. However, I control my own life so I continue to smoke pot. He drinks alcohol, so I'm gonna smoke.

If someone really doesn't want to be with someone because of something they partake in, then it's not meant to be. You can't go into a relationship with the intent of changing someone's ways. It will ALWAYS result in a mess.

All of us have things that really bother us.  Alcohol is his.  I see nothing wrong with discussing how you feel about things...both sides.  Some things are deal breakers. Obviously drinking is his.  As long as it was discussed and each knew exactly what the terms were I see nothing wrong with it.  It is respectful of each other.  Asking, discussing and negotiating is part of any health relationship.  Perhaps he gave into something that was important to her.

I find body jewelry, tatoos, excessive drinking and getting drunk and drugs as offensive as he does alcohol and I would accept a girl that did these things.

We are all different.
