I voted for it should be illegal because I don't think anyone should afflict pain upon themselves. Hurting yourself is like hurting another person. It just flat out isn't right and you shouldn't do it. No matter how mad or angry you are there are other ways to stop the pain then to cause even more pain to yourself.

As for any attempts to make it illegal, good luck, but it wont work. Suicide is illegal, but more people kill themselves than people who die in car-crashes [they just don't tell you that because they fear it will encourage others to follow]. The last thing anyone who hurts themselves wants to have done is put in a padded cell in a mental institution. A part of me wants to tell you guys to be a little more understanding.

Can we just, for a second, stop trying to be condescending and "oh-my-god-he's-a-nutcase!"-like to people who harm themselves. They don't want to be distanced from people who consider themselves normal. They have discovered a valid, and widely-used, coping mechanism, and it works for them. Let's just be a little more accepting. Thanks.

I voted for "it helps with depression" because I truthfully believe that it does. Or at least it did at the time. I still think that it does help though.

I can understand why people do it.

But I also think it's kinda stupid, I've done it, I've been there, still do it, but then I think "Why?" and sometimes just carry on ... feels as though I'm letting out any pain through it, then it comes back later, but it's physical, not emotional which I can deal with.
