You didn't really have an option that suited my opinion on the matter so I will post it directly. I don't think that self harm is a good thing to do. It is a destructive behavior. However, due to the things that cause it and the temporary result that it produces, it's better than the alternative. But, with that said, even though self harm "helps", it's important to seek further help and get to the cause of the problem. Thus, solving the deeper issues, you no longer self harm and are much better off.
