jeslyn- I'm very sorry about your BF. There is a very small percentage of Teens who suffer extremes of depression on some antidepressants. It's always a good idea for a doctor and the patient to monitor the effect the pills are having when first prescribed. For those who go off them, that's great as long as you wean yourselves off them after you and your doctor decide it's time to do that. Unless you are an expert on depression (having it makes you a patient, not an expert) and are trained in pharmacology and the effects on brain chemistry of the antidepressants, then this is a medical condition that needs medical *management* not untrained patients or mothers arbitrarily deciding how best to alter brain chemistry.
To the OP, I'm sorry your mom has inserted herself between you and proper medical care. She likely does not understand that your doctor should be dealing with you. I'd advise you to call your doctor and see if he can get through to your Mom . If nothing else, suddenly stopping SSRI antidrepressants (the most common type, and maybe other types) can cause a plunge into greater depression.
