so last night im hanging out with my cousin and my room mate who is one of my best friends. they both know that i have a cutting problem. so im laying between them with my head in my arms face down cause im tired and they start poking me and hitting me with pillows. fine. but then the next think i know, i feel a plastic knife being run along my arm. and it was coming from the side that my best friend was on....really? did i really need that? im trying to stop cutting and she has been helping me. so that just through me into the worst cutting urge ever. so afterwards, we walk my cousin back to her car and on the walk back to the dorm, she asks me whats wrong. i dont tell her and shes trying to figure out who did what. eventually i just told her to fucking stop and i kicked off my flip flops and ran 5 min to the dorm then went for a walk. luckily, that got rid of the ugre.

so my problem is, should i tell her? this is one of those things that i want to forget happened. and if i do tell her, i cant really tell her until thursday night because she is away on some trip until then. what should i do?

I think that you should tell her because it is something that she  might not have realized how damaging it was to do to you.  I hope that someone wouldn't be that malicious on purpose, so the way you reacted may have been confusing if she didn't know why you were upset.  Friends of cutters often want to be supportive but are very confused about how to do so.  Don't let it get to you for now, but when you have the chance to calmly talk to her about it, I think it would benefit both of you.

I am very proud of you for willing yourself to ignore the urge when that happened, by the way.

Its always a good thing to have a heart to heart talk, especially on serious issues like this. Others may not always understand how you feel or think on a particular situation . .  while I feel the plastic knife may not mean that much, she probably didn't know it was devastating to you - it could probably just be a little joke.

Ask her for some time to talk, and let her know how you feel. You're close friend safter all, and by doing so you not only clear things up, but you'll strengthen the relationship as well . .  So in the days up till thursday, perhaps you might want to find some time to relax and quieten down before speaking to her - -  plan early . .

Its also great to know that you are able to fight that urge - thats probably the biggest step in getting out of the problem. . . Eventually it comes down to your own mindset - but for now getting her support will help you a lot . .

The key to victory is the element of surprise.
When that doesn't work, I guess I just gotta gun you down.
