Ahaha, I remember the beer goggles.
The entire time, I was standing there thinking "WOW, ALL THIS TIME I THOUGHT BEER ONLY GAVE YOU BAD BREATH! THIS IS AWESOME".

Just for the record, so everyone on this thread knows where I'm coming from, I've never drank or done drugs before, mainly because, if I did, I know my parents would catch me.  I've made sure I'm well informed, though, and occasionally read through Erowid when I feel I need to be informed.

I bookmarked it so I can read it some other time when I'm not so tired, but I remember by the end of 5th grade I was totally against drugs and told myself I was never ever going t touch them, which didn't hold true at all, lol although I don't do drugs anymore.

At the time, I was sitting there thinking "OKAY, I'M NEVER EVER GOING TO DRINK SO I CAN PROVE HIM WRONG!"

Because, of course, drinking is completely bad, and anyone who does it is going to die.

Or so they convinced us. =/

They actually set up a driving course with some cones and a golf cart for us to try while wearing the goggles, but I didn't get to try because the first kid that went swerved off and hit the cops car, it was f'ing funny. And at that point they decided it wasn't a good idea.

But I think that drug education should be like sex education: comprehensive and preventative.  Schools should provide useful and acurate information about drugs, but I also think they should discourage students from using them, at least not while they're young... Who's to say how young is too young, but I think it's a bad idea for young kids to do drugs and have sex.  Maybe the DARE program is ineffective, but there has to be something.  

Also, someone posted that the police officers running the dare program lied/exaggerated, but I think part of that is probably just their job.  Maybe drugs like marijuana are pretty harmless, but they also deal with harder drugs too, and they just have a tough job in general.  Maybe it would be better to have regular teachers teaching drug education to eliminate that, but police officers should probably play something of a role if drugs are to remain illegal....
