Oh man that sucks... Do you have the Rapunzel Syndrome too?

Have you talked with an specialist? Do you take some Serotonin?  There's some drugs that help you and counseling is important to try to stop it little by little...

I don't have it but I've studied about it though...

That's interesting... over the course of this semester I've grown to like the feeling of hair being tugged on, especially in the back of my head, behind my ears. I noticed that's where a lot of trichtitillomaniacs like to mess with too... maybe I have tendencies.

You should see another counselor [Because maybe the other one wasn't the one for you] and maybe get some serotonin or a medicine of that type, also talk with a support group or people with this.

You seriously don't want to have the Rapunzel Syndrome.. That's disgusting.

Hello Tarshabear,
I just registerred so I could share my story with you. Ive been exhibiting extreme signs of trichotillomania for the past year, to the point I wear my hair at such a weird part, its always better to put it up. I have recently began seeking therapy. I havent actually attended a session yet, in fact, just started researching today.

My research states that as many as 6-8 million americans have trichotillomania. It can be treated with behavioral therapy and medication. I am 20 years old and live alone, so I am seeking a cheaper form of therapy. I will be starting art therapy as soon as they can get me in. I do not have Rapunzel therapy, but I do bite the roots of the hair. Its so awkward and scary actually saying it out loud. No one even knew about my disorders until just recently. I have had other OCD symptoms from as early as age 12. Ive never seeked treatment, but the trichotillomania is getting so out of hand. I can feel myself spiraling down and its scary. So, I sympathize with you...

Ultimately, I would tell you, start calling places for mental health screenings. If you are young and still live with your parents, sit them down and explain to them that your OCD is an actual disease and you need treatment. Ive waited a year for control, and its only gotten worse. I dont think I personally can overcome without treatment. I suggest you research.

I will bookmark this page and come back and reply if you want to talk.

Hey, you are not alone, in fact a ton of people have this annoying disease. I do.It is strange, it comes from stress, it causes stress and yet it also helps relieve stress. Something I have done to make it less noticeable is to pull on my knees, I know it is weird, but then no one notices!!! If you ever need to talk about it, I'm here. Oh and also, I had my eyebrows tatooed, they look real and you can't tell I pull.

Well for me its all on my head. But I am starting therapy tomorrow. I also have gotten a little squeezy ball, not a stress ball, but one filled with liquid that has little rubber spikes that I can pull on. It is actually really helping me control my impulses today.

Admitting that you have the problem out loud is hard. I have had trich for 25 years. I started pulling when I was 5. I am very good at hiding what I have done to myself. It makes ou feel so ashamed and when you think about it, it's really a stupid thing to do. But I haven' been able to stop for 25 years. I'm back on meds again, but I feel like they really do nothing. If I feel the urge to pull, I pull and the meds can't stop me. I wish that more research was done on this horrible disorder. Hang in there everybody. Oh and for the person that wanted to know what Trichitllomania is, well it's and overwhelming urge to pull out hair from your body. THe average person would think hair pulling would hurt, but to us it actually feels good but make you feel really bad.

I forgot to add that people that have trich may feel insane, but they are truly not.

You should be in therapy, and possibly on meds. I have OCD, and the combination of those things has really helped me.
