The main problem with open carry is the fact that there's this underlying assumption among so many people that those who carry a weapon have the intent on using it. I mean, if you're sitting in the bus with a gun or just walking around on the streets with one, people are going to stare at you and think you're on the verge of going berserk thanks to this line of thinking. Even many police officers tend to think this way and that civilians shouldn't have the right to protect themselves (as evidenced by a certain poster's "hubby" in this thread), and as a result of that, you'll be getting a lot of shit from the police as well if you choose to carry a gun openly. Sure, it's good to be more cautious of pissing somebody off who's armed than one who's not, but equating people carrying a gun for self defense if the unlikely situation ever arises to potential homicidal maniacs is taking this caution a bit too far, in my honest opinion.
