i'm an aspiring screenwriter and got an idea and what i wanna know is would you watch this?

ok so the pilot starts with mark Jacobs calling the family trying to see if their son daniel has turned up since he ( not sure of name just yet) dropped out of college and just left not notifying anyone. So the family are all looking for him and Mark fears that he was abducted by one of his enemies, because since he is a cop and his wife is a lawyer they have made a few enemies. Well once Daniel turns up he announces that he wants to come back home and he was failing school and wants to go to a local college and try again. So he does and the show revolves around

the parents trying to do away with the evil in the town and gain enemies on the way.  Though it's hard for them both to agree because sometimes they are on opposites sides of what is right.

Daniels and his cousin trying to reconnect and since they are dorm mates they better do it quick

and of-course daniel trying to reconnect with his parents who he always felt distance from because they aren't big on the showing affection even if they feel it.

I know a kid named Daniel Jacobs.
Weird.

But I'm not sure if I'd watch the show.
I don't watch television.

But I might be interested in it.

Sounds like a Lifetime movie.

There's a fashion designer named Marc Jacobs.

Sounds a bit too far-fetched for me. The whole cop/lawyer have enemies angle is super cliche and has been used as a plot way too many time.

lol i was thinking more teen drama series than a lifetime movie.  I'm thinking maybe Murphy will be the last name i think it sounds better and maybe changing a few names

Father: Daniel Murphy: A tough cop who doesn't always follow the rules and when it comes to criminals sometimes lets his feelings get the better of him and he starts to throw punches.  Though when he gets home he tries to leave his work at work but he stil feels the stress and stuff but he still makes time for his family and tries to spend time with his son and tries to show his affection by hunting and playing sports with his now older son.

Jenna Murphy: She is a lawyer and when she is at work she also let her feelings get the better of her and she refuses to represent people she knows is wrong, she always says what is on her mind which she tries to leave at work.

Jason Murphy: Most developed character thus far.
He hated the college he attended because it was mostly stuck up preps and just fake people.  He came home not just to get away from the school but to start over in a comfortab le environment.  Though he does want to open up its hard because for 2 years he learned to conceal his feelings and thoughts so he didn't get himself in trouble however he did get into fights because he did speak his mind often even though he tried to hold it in.  He feels a bit of resentment toward his family for pushing him to go away for college, he feels as if they aol wanted ot get rid of him.

Kelly Murphy ( His younger sister freshman in high school  All i have for her thus far is she is a typical teenage girl

i intend on making a large close family and for the family to be well known in town so jason feels he is outcasted because he thinks they expect him to live up to their name.

just a few more notes about the show

Setting:  Show will take place in a medium sized town Glandale New York.  A town barely on any map it is the perfect place for criminals to run scams and set up plans.

I'm not going to lie - I really don't like your cop character. A cop who doesn't follow the rules has been done SO many times, it's just kind of like "Oh right, here's ANOTHER show about a cop who breaks the rules. He's rebelling against the establishment, OH!"

I mean: Patch Adams, A Time to Kill, pretty much every cop/CSI type show etc. all have characters that refuse to conform - the rebels.

It's been done. Way too many times.

i get where your coming from but with this cop character he doesn't follow the rules but he is kept on his toes since his father is the police chief ( or his brother in law haven't decided yet) but i plan on  his character to be different then the other "Cop characters" but i do understand what you mean.  However since its been done and on many successful shows and movies doesn't that mean the formula works :) lol

Okay, I'm a writer too (although just in my spare time) and I don't mean to insult you, but his father as the police chief?

This whole character just reeks of cliche. I would get rid of the cop thing completely and make him go down another route. Just my opinion, because I, personally, would not want to watch another show about a cop who "breaks the rules".

i can't get rid of it unless i go with another idea but the idea is for him later on in the season to accidentally or perhaps appear to be responsible for a death where the partener of the deceased will then declare war on him and his family or something like that.  not sure just throwing ideas out that come to me

ok working on another idea not sure what he will do just yet but he won't be the cop perhaps it will be his brother but i need a member of the family on the police force.

But if i don't make him a cop I need another idea on how he can appear ( but no be) responsible for the murder of a criminal and i want him to bend the rules but not break them so i don't want him to like be a drug dealer or anything like that.

Well, I think you are taking a very, very beaten path and I would just stay as far away from it as you can. Which might mean scrapping everything and starting over - although that is usually an excellent decision.

But do what you want - just know that the studios have heard it all - they'll want something new.

I understand your opinion and i may scrap the Daniel being a cop idea i do stick the the fact yes it has been done but  the fact that its a formula that is a formula on many hit shows cant be a fluke thing.
