In all honestly, i think that single fathers are more respected. Purely because, as you said, they are a rarity. Single mothers are seen to be more normal than single fathers. Purely because i think being a parent comes more naturally to the mother than the father, in most cases, not all.

I personally think they both deserve the same amount of respect.  But I think that most would give more respect to the single dad. I bet some people see a single dad and say "oh what a guy! Raising a child all on his own!" while some close minded and ignorant people would see a single mom, especially if young, and think "oh another (teen) girl who got herself knocked up by some loser guy."  Not the way it should be, but I'd bet that some people think that way.

Of course everyone you meet wont think its great. Just like everyone a single mother might meet may not think its that great.

Honestly, neither of us gets respect.

Out of the thousands of people I've talked to or who have found out I have a child, I've only felt like they respected me 1 out of 1000 times. Most of them just immediately harp on the "zomgzz sluts! whore! 18 fathers!" sorts of lines or basically act like I'm not actually a mother because I'm young and somehow my son's diapers self-change and I don't actually do anything that older mothers do, myself.

Same for single fathers.

Guys get more respect. I'm still with my daughters father, but through my pregnancy everyone always told him that he was so great for staying with us and supporting us... and I got called a slut by the same people.
