I just got my first pay check but my mom won't let me start a banking account saying it's harder to get scholarships if you have money. She said I could have a savings account but I don't see the difference between the two.What should I do.

I don't believe that having a bank account will make it harder to get scholarships, I think your mum is trying to trick you in a good way, because in a savings account you normally cannot touch the money until you are a certain age, in the other hand having a normal bank account with debit card, you have access to your money 24/7.

In other words, your mom wants you to save money :].
