PS A few of you have pointed out that Ive put a black and white answer.
NO
Well off means whether you 'CONSIDER' yourself in money. Not a rich/poor divide.

I recently got slated because I can afford a nice house and shoes and clothes, and things like that. Well, my parents can .

Apperently I should be giving a massive chunk of it away.

I give to charities, I do my bit, but I intend to work bloody hard for my money, surely I should be able to keep most of it.

I (sorry for sounding pompous) think this person was just jealous of my money.

Point is - Is being rich and keeping a fairly decent chunk of it, wrong?

Null vote. I'm not "rich" but I'm not "poor" either. And the question is not a black and white answer, either. This poll is fail.

nothing wrong with being rich so long as you earned it honestly without screwing anyone in the process

I think that you should give enough to help others, but also yes if you have worked hard for your money then you are entitled to some of the rewards.

In Judaism (my birth religion) its actually forbidden to give more than 10% of your earning to charity. I mean, what it the point of giving it all away, then you have become poor yourself and undone all your work.

I am also jewish

giving more than ten% is not forbidden

but you are not supposed to give so much that you yourself are poor

I'm not particularly rich or poor (but I'll probably be tending on the side of the latter when I leave home and stuff, what with wanting to get into drama and music). It's not a simple answer - if you didn't earn your money, or even worse, if you earned it by cheating it out of others, then yes, it is selfish. If you earned it honestly, then it's not that selfish - although obviously if you have millions of dollars and don't give away a scrap then you're more than a bit selfish. As with almost anything else in life, it depends on the situation.

You are the only one that should judge your finances, charities and lifestyle.  You don't have to, nor should you, respond in any way to questions about your wealth or lack of.  It's no one else's business.  You are under no obligation to give any of it to charities or the church.  In fact the church would be the last place I would give.  You be the judge.  If you feel better about giving then you should.  If you don't then it's your business.
