Most schools require the freshmen to live on campus anyway, but I don't thing fraternities are worth it at all. It's very expensive, and you're by no means exempt from the majority of frat activities if you don't join one. Dorm life is beneficial to freshmen to freshmen because they're on campus, and therefore closer to campus resources (i.e., library, TA's office hours, etc).

I know that freaternity will guarantee you friends and a helpful society. If you have trouble socializing with people, a fraternity might be for you, or if you like partying and drinking alot. If you're a people person already and like a quieter life, a fraternity might not be for you.

Fraternity is not worth it if you're going to be studious and busy with work.
