We can have abortions, we can travel the world in just a few hours, we can grow food throughout the year. We can destroy a country in a matter of seconds, we can travel to mars. We can live for longer than our ancestors.

We have so much power over the world around us, over life. We have shaped it into what we want it.

Except in one aspect: death. We cannot control death. And one day he will find each of us at some stage of our lives and make us equal, make everything we strived for irrelevant.

People nowadays seem to be determined to forget about death or push it to the back of our minds. It makes everythign you aim for meaningless.

Less than 100 years ago when the world was more innocent, 1,000's of men climbed out of trenches and walked through a hail of machine gun bullets with walking sticks, each trying to hold polite conversation with his neighbour, during the Great War.
