You should have spoiled your vote if you didn't understand it!

If that was the case, there would have been more or less a million spoiled votes, and 200,000 ACTUAL votes

Well if Ireland wanted to send a message that they're not into signing shit they don't understand, then that'd be the way to do it.

Better than outright rejecting something they don't understand.

If you were given something you didn't understand and were told to sign it, would you scribble all over it or refuse to sign it outright? Going by your logic, the 'correct' thing to do is scribble all over it, then say "neener neener neener"

I'm glad we got the No vote. I do not think the proposals made in the treaty were in Ireland's best interests, and the demands were too high for our nation. People seem to be neglecting the fact that Ireland was the first nation to say no, rather than the only nation. There are still a lot of countries in the process of ratification and, given the immense demands of this treaty, I really don't see us being the only ones.

The EU has 27 countries and 500 million citizens, traversing a colossal range of diversities. One size does not fit all, and for this reason I believe the Lisbon treaty to be inappropriate in terms of a nation's individual constitution. Hopefully this will pave the way for negotiations to form more realistic and advantageous Lisbon treaty for all parties involved.

I doubt we're going to be the only country with the no vote as well, but I doubt they're going to redraw Lisbon as its the third version of the EU constitution. I believe Europe is going to just give up on that version of a reform treaty and try a completely different approach.

If I recall there were even attempts to redraw international borders a few years back, but that could have been a joke or a complete lie.

I would rather reject something that my simple irish mind failed to comprehend than not vote and risk it actually being passed.
My overall understanding was that it would be leading Europe towards greater integration & super power status, whereby an awful lot more decisions would be made for us in Brussels.

& i love how the European heads of State are trying to portray that the Irish people have let Europe down, when in reality the French and Dutch have clearly already voted no so Sarkozy wont dare hold a vote this time round...and also opinion polls suggest that 70% of European citizens are against it and want to maintain their countries identity.

Congrats. You're going to be voting on it until you finally pass some form of it.  God I f*king hate the EU sometimes.
