$2000 dollars will be enough for 9 days in NYC? My friends taking more but she always has way more money than me anyway and wants to buy designer handbags and shizzle. The only major expensive thing I want to buy is an Ipod which is $239. We will be going clubbing and drinking a couple of nights as well though.

What do you think it's unlikely I'll be able to save any more.

is that including accommodation? i think you'll need more money if you're paying for a hotel as well.
i think that should be enough, provided you don't buy too much.

It really depends on you. Do you like to eat at expensive restaurants, buy everything you see, etc?

No we are paying for the flights and accomodation before hand.

We want to go out to a nice restuarant maybe one or twice....but apart from that will probably be living from salad boxes and NY pizza. I won't buy everything I see. I'll probably go to the shops I want to go to first, like Steve and Barries (for SJP's new range), Aeropostale, Urban Outfitters and such like.

And the Ipods from the USA are fine I've had one before.

i'd say set yourself a daily budget. say, $200 a day. that way, you still have some money left over for emergencies.

foodwise, i wouldn't spend more than $700 or so for the entire 9 days. you shouldn't need to, anyway.

Wha ?

If you're buying electronics look up the manufacturer warranty policy, some don't honour warranties on items bought in other countries, some do.

The only thing that would have region codes is stuff like movies and optical drives.

Of course power supplies and plug packs would have the wrong plug and some may not work on different voltages, although the majority do, just check.

An ipod shouldn't be a worry, they charge over USB anyway and you can always buy a UK plugpack to charge with when you get back.

I'd just look into the warranty thing. Some companies are really good, one I had to send an item back for originally bough in the US. Koss, no receipt or anything, but covered under a lifetime worldwide warranty, just a $7 service fee and I got brand new $70 replacement headphones. However there's also the complete opposite experience, where they won't even honour stuff purchased overseas or have a much shorter warranty time.

That's like 300 pounds on food for the week   I don't think I'll be spending that much on food. LAst time I spent maybe $200 at the most on food.
