Lucifer actually was an ancient roman God of light. The Christians stole his name and used it for the devil.

From my understanding of this story, Lucifer was created by God. He was the the most beautiful angel that God had created. Lucifer had seen the power that God had possessed and was envious of it. Since envy/jelousy is an original seven deadly sin, God had punished Lucifer to hell.

Satan didn't fall, it was Lucifer.

I asked the same question, the answer I got was, "God created Satan so there would be evil, without evil we wouldn't have anything to choose between. God wants us to choose to love and follow him. It would not be rewarding for him to make us if we HAD to love him. Because he created Satan, we have a choice as to who we follow."

It depends what your take on the bible is. Are these story literally an account of what happened or are they there to help explain God, Good and Evil, Ying and Yang? The point of these stories are to teach and to help people not to explain why there is a good and evil. Why would God explain him self?

Satan didn't fall, it was Lucifer.
So they are not the same being's in christian myth?
I know they're different. I just can't remember why. I know Satan wasn't the one who fell from heaven, because that was Lucifer.

What is perfection? It's a relative term that changes with time. God created things with free will. Satan fell because he choose to challenge God. We don't even know if hell is a fiery pit of death either; as far as I'm aware, that's a human constructed image. If God loves all of his creations, then surely he still loves Satan, perhaps that explains his existence somewhat. I'm sure the more theological taught can elaborate on this. I've never heard many Christians refer to Satan as Lucifer. Either way, it is just a name that represents something. Post edited at 7:53 pm on June 15, 2008 by iamben
