I went to Paris and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a lovely city. The architecture is not like ours at all, the people were on the whole extremely polite, the sights were pretty good and the food was yum. So, try it.

Edit: I didn't find the language too much of a barrier as A.) All the vital people spoke English perfectly anyway and B.) I'd done a French GCSE two weeks beforehand.

I've never been to Paris, though I've been to Arras and I've seen quite a lot of the area around Carcassonne (relatives there) and also to Boulogne.

I found it very different to England. The whole landscape is different. The architecture is different. The culture is different. And, of course, the language is different (have I had fun with that one...)

No, it's completely different. It's got a far nicer atmosphere, but it varies so much depending on where abouts you are. I know at times Parisiens can seem standoffish and rude, but other times they are the most charming creatures to come across. If you're thinking of going in August, don't bother, Paris will be full of dead bodies of old people and tourists (the Parisiens leave their old people at home whilst they go on holiday, and if there's a heatwave God help them).

Occasionally you hear her scream,
But you don't dare unlock the door and look in.

I have to agree. It's a very nice place, and definitely worth the trip. To say it's similar is idiotic, it's quite different over there. I've been quite a few times and I've enjoyed it, even though I'd been before.

If you want to go, then definitely you should.

Agreed about the charming part. I didn't know that about August - I went at the tail-end of July and didn't think it seemed too touristy... but, er, yeah, July isn't august. =P

Paris rocks! And it's not the same as England. For one, the language is different, as are the attractions, and the culture itself. J'adore ca!
