i only had like 8.
they're only the security updates, but yes they're pretty crucial.
i wouldn't recommend the malicious scanner thing though, that's usually a waste of time if you already have and use an anti-virus program.

Install them, they are good for your computer, and won't slow it down. They should improve performance actualy

hmmm... after installing 20 some updates, Windows took up another 3 GBs of my HDD space..

After trashing that Windows installation, I never bothered with Windows Updates again.

Although Microsoft sincerely professes that updates do make your PC faster, from my experience, most updates slow down your computer...and doesn't really tighten security that much anyways.
