Humans are social creatures by design. Acting as a group leads to the exchange of information and ideas which is why many civilizations advanced more rapidly than others. But also, humans have a tendency to comfort each other, so by seeking out other people, you also find comfort.
I know all people are not like this, I am just speaking generally.
