it doesn't depend on that, it depends on the actual art, if it looks good, if it has a good meaning... to be honest i like both in the same painting. but its best if its fairly unique

I think paintings should have a strong mesage within them. Rather then just something pretty.
I think that if you waste so much time thinking about your next art piece it should be one that has a powerful message. rather then something that people glance at. make them think about it.

I would have to go with the second one because I personally like having a meaning behind my work but I think there is a time and place for both sides.
