Image Slicing - How to preserve layers?

In Photoshop, let's say you designed a web page which has text buttons and you want to chop it up and convert to HTML.

My method would be to just create slices in ImageReady and do a save-as optimized. This would create individual images, which is great, but when you need to modify text in the buttons or create new ones in the  future, i have to keep chopping the entire web page image.

is there a better way to chop these up without losing the text?

Hmm. Maybe slice the image in Photoshop and save as a .psd before going into ImageReady and saving as optimized. That way you can open the .psd file when you want to change something and your layers will still be there. And a tip for slicing: use rulers and guides (and snap to guides). Hopefully this helps...?

im a nub w/ ps and html, with a psd, how exactly do you chop it up into smaller images for use such as buttons, then reintegrate it with html??
