I've had a couple of novices telling me to stop sending them the 'refer a friend' messages, but normally they have backed off when I explained that it is nothing to do with me.

All the time, unfortunately. I've learned to not even reprimand, I just ignore them. It honestly means absolutely nothing to me anymore when someone replies with SHUT UP YOU WANNA BE MOD BITCH. I used to take it personally when I first because a support leader, but I honestly don't think twice anymore. The way I look at it, there are decent members out there that actually need my support and time of day... and I'd rather spend my energy on them than rude novices that will probably never return.

I had a novice close the account after receiving the internet safety warning. He responded to it "HOW DID YOU GET MY EMAIL" and then promptly closed his account, with the only thing written for his reason of closing being "Major"

A lot of people get mad at me for sending them refer a friend messages. They're usually fine once I tell them it's automated, but this one person kept insisting I turned off the automated message, and got really mad when I said I couldn't. Other than that, someone has asked me to prove the Internet is dangerous.

Most of mine just say thanks. I've gotten a couple of "fuck off's" and the like, but then again, most of my novices never come back :(

Oh, absolutely. I got one message from someone who had obviously been receiving the 'refer a friend' message quite a bit that said 'fuck' 27 times, 'cunt' nine times and a bunch of other ones too that I've forgotten.
