I've been looking to become a Tech SL for some time now, but I feel like it's impossible for me to accumulate a mere 10 posts good enough for an application. I think the problem is that I keep thinking that my replies should be similar to what my eHelp SL application's replies were like. I know my way around a computer. I'm not a major power user, but I'm aware of much more than the average person is. I often see issues that I can fix but I don't reply because I dislike replying to threads that have already been answered. And when I do reply, I feel like it wouldn't even be enough for an application. And I'm most comfortable in the Programming & Application Development forum, especially regarding, C++ or Java, but there are few questions asked in there. So my questions are: -To TSLs: What are some examples of some posts you submitted for consideration? Post your entire application, if you'd like. -To Mods who are TSLs: What do you look for in an application? Should the replies be as lengthy and thought out as eHelp SL applications require? Oh, and what about threads that you've made yourself that demonstrate your technical knowledge; do those count? Post edited at 7:08 am on May 28, 2008 by JudeLaurence

This was my Tech SL application:
I should have applied long ago, but I never really bothered. I finally got my act together and did it this past 2 weeks. Reason: I have always had a great passion towards computing and technology in general. I remember sitting with my dad when we got our first laptop, that was running Windows 95. I always thought to myself how cool they were, and how so much can fit into such a small enclosure. I have been using computers for many years now, and I am very familiar with Windows, and have been using OS X for nearly three years now. I have a great and diverse knowledge about many fields in technology, even the legal areas concerned with copyright and 'stealing' music. So it comes as no great surprise then that I love to help people. I find it fun and interesting when I can help someone with a problem. Even from afar like on LW, and in real world situations. Some people find it annoying when you're a techy person and everyone bothers you for help. I don't. I feel proud that I get to help people and actually make a viewable difference. Even if the situation is not resolved, I know that I tried my best, and that the Livewire user will know that. I love everything about technology, and I can't get enough of it. This alongside my great enthusiasm to help people is why I want to become a Tech SL. It may just be a label to some, but with such insignia the broader community of Livewire will able to recognise me as someone that can offer helpful and accurate replies about their technological woes. Sometimes I see stupid or incorrect replies to topics relating to technology, and being a Tech SL I would have more of an authority to explain a better or more correct route for solving the person's problem. I have been a Livewire member for over a year, and have had nearly a year active. My time to help people with my understanding of technology is long overdue, and in some respects I'm slightly sad I didn't spend so much time writing quality answers.
